Policies

Membership

In order to for the group to gel and work together effectively, regular attendance is strongly encouraged. If regular attendance at meetings falls below 3 people for 3 consecutive weeks, the group will consider dissolution.

Any member who cannot make meetings for 4 consecutive meetings will be considered inactive. Reactivation will be on a case by case basis. If you wish to leave the group, please let us know by mail, e-mail or telephone that you are no longer interested in participating.

Prospective members will be interviewed in a neutral place (e.g., bookstore, coffee shop, restaurant) and if accepted, will be given a probationary period of 8 weeks. New members will be expected to commit to attending meetings regularly for that period so that everyone has a chance to get to know each other and for new members to be incorporated into the group. If, at the end of that time, any established members have problems with the new member or the chemistry among people is not working, then the new member may be asked to leave. Established members who have disputes with each other are expected to work through them in an adult manner.

Meetings

Meetings will be held on Sunday afternoons (usually the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month) at the designated time (usually late afternoon — meeting times will vary depending on members’ schedules) and will last approximately two hours.

If any member cannot make it on a particular Sunday, they should notify Susan (via e-mail or telephone — if you find out you cannot make it on the Sunday we're meeting, please call Susan as she may not check her e-mail in time to get your message) as early as possible, preferably at least one week in advance. If several people cannot make a particular Sunday, the meeting for that week may be rescheduled on another day that accommodates everyone (if possible).

Discussion questions for the next meeting either will given at the end of the meeting or will be posted by e-mail after the meeting so everyone can come prepared. After the meeting, a summary of the discussion will be posted by e-mail if anyone was not at the meeting and if anyone has further comment, she can contribute to the discussion by e-mail. This will help insure that everyone stays current on the topics discussed.

Weather and other emergencies: if we must cancel a meeting due to weather or other act of the Gods, we will attempt to contact everyone by telephone or by e-mail (and this requires all members to give Susan this information). We also encourage members to try to contact Susan if they have any questions about whether a meeting will be held.

If any member tries to telephone Susan, and gets only the answering machine, please leave a message with your phone number so she can get back to you (this is especially important if you don't have e-mail!).
